A Jean Jacques Machado Affiliate
TANTŌ JIUJITSU is proud to be directly under one of the pioneers of the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and one of its greatest champions, Master Jean Jacques Machado.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Master Machado began his Jiu-Jitsu training more than forty years ago. He dominated the competitive arena of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in his native country, capturing every major title and competition award from 1982 through 1992.
In 1992, he arrived in the United States to continue his competitive success. Dominating the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu scene both in the United States and in international competition, Master Machado gained worldwide recognition in 1999 with his performance at the Abu Dhabi Combat Club World Submission Wrestling Championships. In 2025, Master Jean Jacques Machado was inducted into the ADCC and Black Belt Magazine Hall of Fame.
On March 29, 2025 Jean Jacques was awarded his 8th Degree Coral (Red/White) Belt by Master Rickson Gracie.
Professor Alfred
Professor Alfred is the owner and head instructor of TANTŌ JIUJITSU. He began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1999 and has trained directly under Jean Jacques Machado for over 20 years. He is currently a Third Degree Black Belt.
Professor Alfred opened TANTŌ JIUJITSU with the goal of teaching jiu-jitsu the way he was taught — with a strong focus on fundamentals, concepts, and technique. He believes that having a solid foundation is what helps students grow and improve both on and off the mat.
For Alfred, jiu-jitsu is more than just learning moves. He believes training teaches patience, confidence, discipline, and self-awareness. He often says that the mat exposes your weaknesses, giving you the opportunity to work on them and become stronger through the process.
He is passionate about helping students grow and creating a positive environment for people of all experience levels. Outside of jiu-jitsu, Alfred is also a devoted animal lover.
